Alert Details

New corn rootworm hatches are expected to focus mainly along the I-94 corridor from North Dakota southeast into Minnesota and Wisconsin this week and then eastward into lower Michigan and southern Ontario, Canada. Remaining hatches should mainly be focused north of I-80 at this point in the growing season, with beetle emergence more likely now along and south of I-80. Where rootworms have been a problem in recent growing seasons, growers are encouraged to dig up both corn and soybean roots in addition to volunteer corn in soybean fields to assess potential damage and any necessary treatments. As corn enters the silking phase, growers should evaluate beetle counts and treat if beetle populations exceed local thresholds for this insect.
