Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to expand to the north and east across the corn-growing region in the week ahead in response to accumulated soil temperature heat units reaching or exceeding initial hatch thresholds. Initially, fields in Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana will be most likely to see hatch risks this week but the risk will expand into southeast Nebraska, northern Missouri, central and southern Iowa, much of Illinois, far southwest Wisconsin, much of Indiana, northwest into central Ohio, and also into far southwest lower Michigan by late week into the weekend. Especially where problems have occurred historically, growers over the next several weeks should dig up roots and determine if any rootworms are present and take necessary steps to prevent additional damage.
