Alert Details

Corn rootworm beetle populations should continue to be monitored across a large part of the corn-growing region in the next week or so, but overall the most pressure should be focused over the central and northern areas where the majority of fresh silks and later-maturing crops are primarily located. Scattered problems are anticipated, so Moderate corn rootworm risks extend from Nebraska into South and North Dakota as well as into Minnesota, central/northern Iowa, far northern Illinois, Wisconsin, far northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and into far southern Ontario, Canada. Lower risks are found to the south of this region, but the overall threat has greatly diminished especially south of I-80 given advanced crop stage. Even if beetle populations are not at threshold levels, growers should take note of where these populations are present as it could represent a need to adjust planting intentions for next year’s crop.
