Alert Details

Corn rootworm beetle populations may still cause some isolated to scattered problems especially across the northern corn-growing region for the next few weeks with the threat generally subsiding to the south given crop stage. Moderate risks continue in the forecast this week from the Nebraska panhandle northeast into South and North Dakota, far northern Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, far northern Illinois, and into lower Michigan as well as southern Ontario, Canada. Low risks are found to the south of the Moderate risk area, generally for late planted or slower-maturing crops, from western Kansas into Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Growers located generally along and north of I-90 should be most concerned at this point but mainly in fields with fresh silks. Elsewhere, where corn rootworm populations were present, it may be advisable to consider changes in planting intentions for next year especially if pressure was higher than usual.
