Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm hatch risks are in the forecast by late this week into next weekend especially in most favored fields from eastern Missouri through southwest, central, and eastern Illinois, and into the central part of Indiana. Given heavy to in some cases excessive rainfall in some portions of the risk area, however, corn rootworm hatch may still be quite varied with respect to initial hatch date. Well-drained or higher elevation fields have a higher risk of early hatch or also in sandier soils or areas that have not seen quite as much rain. Growers in or near the risk area, especially those with emerged corn, should consider beginning their rootworm scouting programs this week and continue until the threat has passed later this growing season.
