Corn Rootworm
High corn rootworm hatch risks continue in the forecast this week and into next weekend across portions of eastern Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, with additional hatch risks now in the forecast across Kansas by late week and into next weekend. The initial hatch risk area was also expanded north across central and eastern Illinois as well as into Indiana during this same time in response to greater soil temperature heat unit accumulations. Growers that were able to plant early and are located in/near the hatch risk area should dig up roots and see if any corn rootworm populations are present at this time. Variations are expected in corn rootworm damage this year so field-specific root digs are encouraged to determine local, field-level populations especially in areas with varying elevations.
