Corn Rootworm
High corn rootworm hatch risks will be in the forecast across much of Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, western Ohio, southern Iowa, far southern Wisconsin, and southwest lower Michigan between now and early next week as soil temperature heat unit accumulations and generally drier weather as of late may result in new corn rootworm hatches. Growers in or near the High risk area that have emerged corn should go into fields and dig up roots to determine if any populations are present. Corn rootworm pressure may be varied this year given that many areas saw excessive rainfall, but well-tiled or drained fields as well as those fields higher in elevation are the most likely to be susceptible to corn rootworm pressure this year.
