Alert Details

High corn rootworm hatch risks will continue this week especially across Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, with the risks then spreading north by late week and into next weekend into Nebraska, Iowa, the remainder of northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, southwest lower Michigan, and also into Ohio. Recent warm temperatures and generally less precipitation has increased soil temperature heat unit accumulations in many areas of the corn-growing region in the last week. Growers with newly-emerged corn that are located in or near the risk area are encouraged to dig up roots and determine if any rootworm larvae are present. Problems are expected to be sporadic this year and may favor well-drained, higher elevation fields especially where excessive rainfall has occurred this spring.
