Corn Rootworm
High corn rootworm hatch risks will continue in the forecast this week and into next weekend from Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, southern Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and also into portions of eastern Colorado, southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, central Wisconsin, southern lower Michigan, and also potentially into far southwest Ontario, Canada especially by late week and into the weekend. Initial rootworm hatch risks continue to spread north and west with increasing heat unit accumulations. Growers that are in or near the risk area should dig up roots both in corn and soybean fields and determine if populations are present. Corn rootworm pressure is expected to be quite variable this year given late planting in addition to ponding water/flooding issues, so field-by-field checks will be necessary to determine if pressure is evident.
