Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm hatch events are expected to continue over the next week across a large portion of the corn-growing region, with the majority of new hatches now likely focusing north of the I-80 corridor. Growers located in eastern Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southwest Ontario, Canada should all be scouting fields and digging up roots to determine if any corn rootworm larvae are present. Fields at most risk are well-drained/tiled and high elevation fields that do not have standing water in them and also in areas with corn-on-corn and previous history with corn rootworm problems even with protective traits. By late week and into next weekend, additional hatch risks focus from northern South Dakota into North Dakota, central and northwest Minnesota, and central/northern Wisconsin as well as southeast into areas further north into the lower peninsula of Michigan and Ontario, Canada.
