Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks continue in the forecast across a large portion of the corn-growing region, including eastern Colorado, Kansas, much of Nebraska, Missouri, South Dakota, southeast North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southwest Ontario, Canada. Most hatches are likely focused along and north of I-80 at this point, with some concerns over beetle populations potentially entering the picture in areas along/south of I-70 at this point especially where silking corn is present. Growers should dig up roots in both corn and soybean fields and determine if larvae populations are present. Most susceptible fields this year are those that are well-drained/tiled, higher elevation, corn-on-corn, or where previous resistance to protective traits has recently been observed. Field-by-field scouting is likely needed given the expected variance in pressure this year even over short distances.
