Alert Details

High and Moderate corn rootworm risks continue across a large portion of the corn-growing region as either hatching is expected to continue (especially north of I-90) or beetle emergence further to the south. Growers all across the corn-growing region from eastern Colorado into Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada are encouraged to dig up roots and determine if corn rootworm populations are present, or in more advanced fields especially across Kansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois, determine what beetle populations may exist. While problems with corn rootworms are expected to be and usually are scattered, they can be difficult to predict exactly where higher pressure may occur so area-wide scouting is recommended as new pressure areas may influence planting intentions for next year’s crop.
