Alert Details

Corn rootworm beetle emergence and population issues are the primary concern for much of the corn-growing region in the week ahead. Some scattered reports of high beetle counts and potential damage have been reported, and as corn continues to provide fresh silks as it advances through critical development/growth stages, more of the crop will be potentially subjected to the risk over the next week. Fields from eastern Colorado as far east as Ohio and north into the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and even into southern Ontario, Canada should be scouted and beetle counts noted. Even if counts are not at threshold, it will be important to remember where these higher counts are occurring as it could affect planting intentions for next year’s crop.
