Alert Details

High corn rootworm risks continue in the forecast across virtually the whole of the corn-growing region for the next week. The risk area stretches from eastern Colorado into Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. The primary concern at this point is with increasing beetle populations and silk clipping as all hatches are likely now complete. Numerous yet scattered reports of high corn rootworm beetle populations are present with some areas seeing significant beetle counts. Growers are encouraged to scout fields and take note of where beetle populations are present and at what level to determine if treatment is necessary or if in more advanced fields, simply to take note for next year’s crop/rotation.
