Corn Rootworm
High corn rootworm beetle population risks continue across virtually all of the corn-growing region in the next week. Risks include fields in eastern Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Numerous reports from several growing areas continue to report locally significant beetle presence and/or damage with plant lodging/damage also being reported. Growers need to scout fields and determine if any beetles are present and/or if any damage has occurred. Even if beetle counts are not at threshold or damage is observed, it will be important to take note where these beetles are present as it could affect next year’s planting decisions/rotations to prevent or minimize potential problems.
