Alert Details

Soybean aphid risks are in the forecast beginning next week especially from eastern South Dakota into northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and further east into southern Ontario, Canada. A higher percentage of the soybean crop in/near the risk area is entering into reproductive stages of growth and is thus also becoming more at risk of being impacted by soybean aphids. Soybean aphid populations have been observed on a scattered basis in the risk area, including in some areas that have not seen soybean aphids in several years. Growers are encouraged to regularly scout fields, especially those near more wooded areas or where buckthorn (overwintering host) is present. Changes in soybean aphid populations should be noted, as should natural enemies/predators. Weather over the next few weeks may be conducive to population increases where soybean aphids are present so regular scouting will be important moving forward.
