Alert Details

Soybean aphid development risks remain in the Moderate category across portions of northern Iowa into southern Minnesota where soybean acreage is most intensive and also where history suggests that soybean aphid populations could be present and potentially increase into treatable levels at least on an isolated to scattered basis. Heat and beating rains may limit the overall potential for more widespread population increases at least to start the week, but some more average temperatures mid-late week may result in better opportunities for local populations to increase. Low risks for more isolated issues stretches from the eastern Dakotas into far northeast Nebraska, additional sections of northern Iowa not included in the Moderate risk, extreme northwest Illinois, southern and central Wisconsin, and also further east into lower Michigan and southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are advised to regularly scout fields in the reproductive stages of growth and take note of population changes in specific fields. Populations can and will likely vary even across adjacent fields so regular scouting will be necessary to determine if any fields are in need of treatment as we move through the early reproductive stages of growth in soybean.
