Low soybean aphid risks have been introduced to the forecast across the northern soybean-growing region for the next week including the eastern Dakotas, northeast Nebraska, Minnesota, northern Iowa, far northern Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and eastward further into southern Ontario, Canada. A break in the heat is expected at least for much of the next week in this region, and this may result in some areas where soybean aphid populations can increase, and in some cases, rapidly increase. In general, however, problems or the need for treatment still appears to be isolated given recent weather and prospects for heat returning in some areas by as soon as next weekend as well as generally very low populations in many reports of where aphids are currently present. There are also numerous natural predators present in the same fields as soybean aphids, so populations may also be kept in check that way. Still, with many soybean fields in critical early-reproductive growth stages, regular, field-level scouting is recommended especially where cooler temperatures occur, to determine how soybean aphid populations are changing and if any treatment is necessary.
