Soybeans continue to advance in growth through critical reproductive growth stages, and the next few weeks will be critical to any potential soybean aphid outbreaks before fields advance past the critical R5-R6 growth stage for potential yield loss associated directly with soybean aphids for this year’s crop. A more favorable weather pattern, at least with respect to temperatures, is expected across the northern soybean growing region and given crop stage, the Moderate risk for this particular insect has been expanded westward and now includes fields from eastern South Dakota across much of central/southern Minnesota into far northern Iowa and also into central/southern Wisconsin. Low risks continue from the eastern Dakotas and northeast Nebraska across northern/central Iowa, the remainder of Minnesota and Wisconsin not in the Moderate risk, far northwest Illinois, lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are encouraged to regularly scout fields and make any treatment decisions based on observations at the field level through at least the R5 growth stage.
