Soybean aphid populations may show signs of increasing in fields where this particular insect is present in the northern soybean-growing region given expected weather in the next week. Moderate risks remain in place across far northern Iowa, much of Minnesota, and central/southern Wisconsin as well as eastern South Dakota, and the Moderate risk was expanding north into eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota, as well, in the next week. Now is the critical time for many soybean fields given crop stage as many fields will move past the critical R5-R6 growth stage in the next week or two, and soybean aphids will no longer be a threat to many fields. Growers are encouraged to scout at the field level and make any treatment decisions based on thresholds and that specific field. Low risks do extend from the central Dakotas as far east as southern Ontario, Canada, but the primary concern is west of Lake Michigan and especially west of the Mississippi River.
