Alert Details

Soybean aphid egg hatch is winding down across much of the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region as well as adjacent sections of southern Ontario, Canada. Any remaining egg hatches should be confined to the eastern Dakotas, central and northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, northern and central lower Michigan, and southern Ontario, Canada. Growers should be aware that early-season soybean aphid populations may be lower this growing season due to killing freeze temperatures occurring across much of the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region after egg hatch occurred, so many aphids may not have survived these cold temperatures. Ideal late spring and summer weather conditions may allow populations to build by the time the treatment window appears later in the summer, but populations may be lower again this year due to the freezing temperatures especially if weather conditions are not as favorable for regeneration between now and then.
