Soybean Aphid
Soybean aphid egg hatch is likely underway from portions of northeast Nebraska into far southeast South Dakota, northwest and west central Iowa through central and east central Iowa, portions of northern Illinois, northern Indiana, and far northwest Ohio. With below average temperatures expected for much of this week across the Midwest, additional egg hatch is not likely to occur too much further to the north from the existing risk area, but some additional hatches may occur over the weekend and early next week especially in northeast Iowa, far northern Illinois, extreme southern Wisconsin, and also into portions of far southwest and south central Michigan. Any early-hatching aphids last weekend may have been exposed to a hard freeze especially in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa which may limit the initial aphid population, at least on a local basis, in these areas.
