Alert Details

Soybean aphid development risks are on the increase this week especially north of I-90 and generally along/west of the Mississippi River. Weather conditions are expected to become more conducive to population increases and as soybeans further advance into or through reproductive stages of growth, growers are encouraged to intensify scouting efforts. Moderate risks are in place this week and into next weekend across far eastern North Dakota, northeast South Dakota, and western into central Minnesota. As the week progresses, Moderate risks are being expanded both south and east into southern and southeast Minnesota and also into far western Wisconsin as cooler temperatures following a cold front late week and into next weekend may lead to growing populations in these areas, as well. Low risks extend from the eastern Dakotas into Minnesota, far northeast Nebraska, northern Iowa, far northern Illinois, Wisconsin, mainly central lower Michigan and east into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers located within the risk areas are encouraged to scout your own fields and no rely solely on extension or seed company reports as populations are likely quite variable even from field to field. Established thresholds for soybean aphids should be used to determine if treatment is necessary.
