Soybean Aphid
Soybean aphid egg hatch is predicted to commence or continue over much of the northern United States and southern Canada in the next week, and may be completed across southern areas of the risk region, especially closer to I-80. New hatches are possible in northeast South Dakota, southeast North Dakota, portions of northwest and central Minnesota, central and northern Wisconsin, central and northern lower Michigan, and additional areas of southern Ontario, Canada especially on the north side of Lake Ontario where a higher buckthorn concentration is located. Growers should be aware that any newly hatched soybean aphid populations are having a difficult time surviving given the lack of favorable hosts, including soybean, present. The egg hatch risks being issued are provided as an awareness that soybean aphids are beginning to make their appearance this growing season in the outlined risk regions.
