Soybean Aphid
With recent and expected continued warm weather and precipitation this week, soybean aphid egg hatch risks are predicted to expand northward across the northern soybean-growing region this week. Egg hatch risks will initially be along and north of the I-80 corridor from northeast Nebraska through central Iowa, northern Illinois, northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, and far southern lower Michigan at the beginning of the week but are likely to expand north into far southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, southern and western Wisconsin, and into southern lower Michigan by late week into next weekend. While there is no threat to any crops at this time, the risk serves as a reminder and awareness that soybean aphids are likely to become active this growing season and weather trends will need to be monitored to help ascertain what population dynamics may do later this summer.
