Soybean Aphid
Moderate soybean aphid risks continue especially across Minnesota, the eastern Dakotas, and into northern Iowa this week into next weekend. Low risks extend from northeast Nebraska into central Iowa, far northern Illinois, the central Dakotas, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers with soybeans prior to the R6 growth stage and located in or near the Moderate risk region should be actively scouting soybean fields and taking note of changes in populations. Numerous reports of soybean aphids reaching or exceeding threshold values have come in over the last few weeks along with some rapid population increases in some fields. Growers should base any treatment decisions on what is occurring in specific fields and not just on what the local reports are saying, as well, as soybean aphid populations can and do vary considerably even between adjacent fields.
