Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm emergence and flight has begun in some areas of the corn-growing region. A few moths are now appearing especially in the southern Great Lakes region. With recent and expected continued heat, additional moth emergence is likely in both this region and also in the traditional/historic hot-spot areas of the central Plains (far northern Kansas into Nebraska). Low risks are now in the forecast for both of these areas, although crop development lags behind the average pace by quite a bit so effects from the moth flight may not be that problematic for a few more weeks yet.
