Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm moth flight has begun in select areas of the corn-growing region. The first moths of the year have been captured in Nebraska, Wisconsin, and portions of the southern Great Lakes states with the flight showing signs of intensifying in some areas in recent days. Corn in many of these areas is just entering critical growth stages and where western bean cutworm moths may find the plants attractive for egg laying, so only Low risks have been introduced to the forecast this week in northern Kansas and southern Nebraska as well as sandier areas of Wisconsin, and also in far northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers with more advanced crops should begin scouting/trapping immediately as the flight intensifies over the next few weeks.
