Western Bean Cutworm
The primary focus for western bean cutworm flights and more widespread potential damage is now across the Great Lakes region and into southern Canada as the crop further west in the Plains states and even into the western Great Lakes area becomes too advanced and also where the moth flight is declining rather rapidly. Moderate risks remain in the forecast across central and northern Nebraska for the next week, but this elevated risk area is likely to be removed from the forecast by late this week or next week. Moderate risks remain from lower Michigan east into portions of New York state and then further north into southern Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada and this is the area where the greatest concern remains simply from lower accumulated heat units and less advanced crop stage. Growers should continue to scout fields and monitor the flight until the threat passes.
