Alert Details

Western bean cutworms are expected to continue to increase in number in the usual “hot spots” for this particular insect as it moves through its annual moth emergence/flight. High risks are in now in place across far north central Kansas into central and southern Nebraska, with Moderate risks surrounding the High risk area in both states. Additionally, Moderate risks are now in place across portions of Indiana, Ohio, and far southern lower Michigan as the flight intensifies in that area but on a more isolated/scattered basis. Low risks are found near the elevated risk areas in northeast Colorado, central and northern Kansas, much of Nebraska, far western Iowa, northwest Missouri, Wisconsin, and into eastern Illinois, central Indiana and Ohio, central and southern lower Michigan, and further northeast into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers in or near the risk areas are encouraged to continue trapping and scouting efforts in the weeks ahead, especially as a higher percentage of the crop enters into critical growth stages and where damage could potentially increase if not monitored/treated appropriately.
