Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moth populations continue to climb as the annual flight is well underway for this growing season. High risks continue in the forecast across northern Kansas into central Nebraska with Moderate risks surrounding the High risk area in northern Kansas, Nebraska, and into far northeast Colorado. Additional Moderate risks are now found across central Wisconsin with much of northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, southern and central lower Michigan, and southern Ontario, Canada also in a Moderate risk. Low risks surround the Moderate risk areas in these respective states as well as into portions of far eastern Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York state as well as into southwest Quebec, Canada. Growers should not only monitor traps but scout fields, looking for egg masses as numerous reports of egg laying/masses have been received from within the elevated risk areas.
