The annual western bean cutworm moth flight continues but is focusing further north in respective areas where this insect is a nuisance. High risks now focus across northeast Colorado into southwest and western Nebraska, with Moderate risks surrounding the High risk from northern Kansas into central and western Nebraska as well as northeast Colorado. Trap captures have been showing signs of decreasing, overall, with some local increases in spots. Further east, the eastern portion of the annual flight continues, with Moderate risks in Wisconsin as well as in northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, much of lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada. Growers located in or near the risk areas are encouraged to continue to monitor flights through trapping and scout fields, looking for egg masses and/or fresh larvae in susceptible plants. The treatment windows for these insects is fairly narrow so regular, diligent scouting is important to prevent or minimize damage.
