Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm moth flight continues but is winding down in many United States growing areas. The peak flight has recently occurred in portions of Ontario and Quebec, Canada, so we should see a general decrease in counts over the next week or so in most growing areas where this insect is present. Still, egg laying and feeding damage may still occur past peak flight in portions of northeast Colorado into western Nebraska where Moderate risks remain in place. Additional Moderate risks are found in the sandier portions of central Wisconsin as well as further east in lower Michigan and into southeastern Canada. Low risks surround the Moderate risk areas where pressure should be more isolated or on the decline over the next week or so. Growers with crops at vulnerable stages should continue trapping but more importantly scouting efforts in those fields of most concern until either the crop is past critical growth stages where damage could occur.
