Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm risks remain elevated in areas where this insect has historically and may be presently causing some issues as peak flight continues. High risks are found from southern Nebraska into northern Kansas with Moderate risks from northeast Colorado into Kansas and Nebraska, with additional Moderate risks across northern Indiana, northern Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada where moth captures are also generally on the increase. Low risks for more potential isolated issues are found across much of the Great Lakes region in addition to the central Plains. Growers are encouraged to monitor traps and scout fields as the treatment window for western bean cutworms is fairly narrow and a proactive approach to managing this insect is warranted where pressure is higher.
