Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moth populations are expected to continue to grow throughout the next week, and with a greater percentage of field corn crops entering into critical growth stages where damage could occur, treatment timing will become even more important in the coming weeks. As a result, Moderate western bean cutworm emergence risks are now in the forecast across southern Nebraska into northern Kansas, and also in northern Indiana, far northwest Ohio, and southern lower Michigan where moth captures have already been occurring. Lower risks surround the Moderate risk area where emergence may just be occurring now in these same states as well as into northeast Colorado later in the week and also central Wisconsin. Growers in/near these areas are encouraged to monitor traps closely and begin regular scouting efforts, if not already done so.
