Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm moth flight is underway with near peak or peak flight now occurring in portions of the central Plains and scattered locations elsewhere in the Great Lakes region. High western bean cutworm risks are now in place across northern Kansas into southern Nebraska where peak flight is likely occurring now, with Moderate risks surrounding the High risk in these same states. More isolated issues are possible further west into portions of northeastern Colorado, as well, in addition to a larger portion of Nebraska and especially northern/central Kansas. Additional Moderate risks are found in northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada, as well, with Low risks in this same region but further north/east and also in Wisconsin. Growers located in or near any risk area are strongly encouraged to regularly check traps but also scout fields and look for signs of egg laying. Treatment timing for western bean cutworms is extremely critical to be effective.
