Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moth captures continue to increase across those areas of the corn-growing region where this particular insect is present. Peak flight is ongoing in far northern Kansas into southern and portions of central Nebraska, and trap counts are gradually increasing in the second area of concern in the Great Lakes region. High risks continue across far northern Kansas into Nebraska, with an expansion of the Moderate risk as far west now as far northeastern Colorado by mid-late week and also further into southwestern Nebraska. Moderate risks are also found further north across lower Michigan and into southern Ontario, Canada. Great Lakes growers should continue to expect trap counts and moth/egg laying activity to continue to increase in the coming weeks from Wisconsin as far east as Ontario, Canada. Regular scouting is critical with this particular insect as the treatment window is very narrow to be truly effective.
