Alert Details

Western bean cutworm risks remain in the High category across the central Plains region primarily in extreme northern Kansas into Nebraska where insect moth counts continue to remain elevated over a more widespread area.
There are signs that the peak flight has now occurred especially in southern Nebraska with higher or more steady counts now noted further north and west, and generally falling counts across southern Nebraska into northern Kansas. Moderate risks extend into portions of western Nebraska and northeastern Colorado, as well. Additional Moderate risks remain in the forecast across the eastern corn-growing region from Indiana and northwest Ohio north into lower Michigan and east into southern Ontario, Canada, where western bean cutworms continue to be observed but generally in a more scattered fashion and generally with lower trap captures. Additional moth presence may be observed surrounding the Moderate risk area further west into Wisconsin and east as far as southwestern Quebec, Canada. Growers should continue regular scouting given the sensitivity of treatment timings with regards to effectiveness for this particular insect.
