Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moth populations continue to build in the usual “hot spot” areas for this particular insect as the annual moth flight continues. High risks are now in place across far northern Kansas into southern Nebraska where the flight is most intense, with Moderate risks surrounding the High risk area in these same states as well as into northeastern Colorado. Additional Moderate risks are found in Wisconsin as well as into northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and also into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers in or near these risk areas should be checking traps and regularly scouting fields as the treatment window for most effective western bean cutworm control is very narrow and larvae damage can occur quickly without proactive and timely efforts.
