Alert Details

Low western bean cutworm emergence risks have been introduced to the forecast across northern Kansas into southern Nebraska by later this week and into next weekend and beyond. While general heat unit accumulations are running about 3-5 days behind average, crop stage in some areas is beginning to reach favorable hosting stages, so risks are being introduced as the annual flight is likely to begin in or near this general risk area in the next week or so. Additional risks are likely to be introduced to the forecast for portions of the Great Lakes region soon, as well, and we encourage all growers that are in or near an area where western bean cutworms have historically been present or an issue to set your traps up now in preparation for this year’s flight.
