Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moths continue to emerge and peak flight is now being reached in portions of the Plains states where a High risk remains in place across extreme northern Kansas into southern and also central portions of Nebraska. Moderate risks are found surrounding the High risk in these same states as well as northeast Colorado. More isolated pressure may exist as far west as the Sandhills in western Nebraska and north/east into extreme southern South Dakota, western Iowa, and far northwest Missouri. Further east, in the Great Lakes region, the annual moth flight should begin picking up in the next week or so, with Moderate risks mainly for scattered potential issues in the forecast across Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, southern and southeastern Ontario, Canada, and also into an increasing portion of Wisconsin. Growers in both areas should monitor traps closely but more importantly scout fields as the treatment window for this insect is rather narrow to be most effective, and pressure may not necessarily warrant treatment in some areas compared to others nearby.
