Alert Details

Western bean cutworm moth emergence continues across the usual “hot spot” areas for this particular insect, and we are seeing peak flight now already completed in some areas, as well. High risks remain in place across southern Nebraska where peak flight is occurring, but we did remove High risks from northern Kansas as moth captures are dropping off in this area as peak flight is now complete and captures are dropping. We maintain Moderate risks across much of Nebraska and into northeast Colorado with more isolated risks as far north as southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, western Iowa, and extreme northwest Missouri. Further east, in the eastern western bean cutworm region in the Great Lakes, the annual moth flight continues but is more scattered and generally less intense compared to further west, so Moderate risks are found across Wisconsin into northern Indiana and northern Ohio, southern and portions of central lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario, Canada. There may be a few isolated issues into portions of far northern and eastern Illinois, central Indiana, and Ohio, and then further north into additional portions of Michigan and east into southeast Ontario and southwestern Quebec, Canada. The treatment window for western bean cutworms is rather narrow to be most effective so growers are advised to regularly monitor traps and scout fields especially in near or newly silking fields.
