Alert Details

Western bean cutworm moths continue to progress through their annual one-time flight, with peak flights now beginning to shift north in the two general areas where this insect is prevalent. In the central Plains region, peak flight is now complete across far northern Kansas into southern Nebraska, with High risks now focusing more from southwest into central Nebraska versus across southern regions. We maintain a Moderate risk elsewhere across much of Nebraska and also into northeast Colorado where problems are likely to be more scattered in nature. Some isolated moths may also be present in southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, western Iowa, and northwest Missouri but any issues in these areas are likely to be isolated to very isolated, if at all. Across the Great Lakes region, peak flight is also shifting north in this region, with the primary focus from central Wisconsin east into central/eastern lower Michigan and also into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks are found across much of Wisconsin and east into northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and east into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers in and near the risk areas should continue scouting efforts as the treatment window for this particular insect is rather narrow to be most effective.
