Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moth flights are beginning to wind down and/or shift further to the north as the annual flight for this particular insect begins to subside in many areas for this growing season. Moderate risks, however, do remain in the forecast particularly across far northeast Colorado and from western Nebraska east into portions of central and eastern Nebraska where moth captures are still occurring and also where the crop is not quite as advanced as further to the south where elevated risks have now been removed from the forecast. Additional Moderate risks are found across northern Wisconsin and east into central and eastern lower Michigan and then further east into southeastern Canada. Low risks surround the Moderate risk areas, with a general reduction in the risk through the next week across the southern edge of the risk. Growers with crops still at susceptible stages to western bean cutworm damage should continue scouting efforts and any treatment decisions are time-sensitive so regular scouting is important until the overall threat has subsided for this year’s crop.
