Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm moth flight continues to wind down in many areas, and with crops advancing past critical growth stages in many areas, the risks for this particular insect are being reduced or eliminated in many areas. The only Moderate risks remaining for this year’s crop are in southeast Ontario and southwest Quebec provinces in Canada, but even in these areas we expect to take the risk out of the forecast by the end of the week. Low risks for continued isolated pressure especially in late or re-planted fields, as well as some processing fields, remains in far northern Colorado, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota, northern and central Wisconsin, and further east into central/eastern lower Michigan and far southwest Ontario, Canada. Growers with less advanced crops, or those intentionally planted later, should continue to monitor traps but more importantly scout those fields until the threat has passed for this growing season.
