Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm moth flight is in its very early infancy stages in portions of the central Plains where this particular insect has historically been observed. The flight will continue to intensify over the next few to several weeks, and Low risks have been introduced to the forecast for the first time this year across far northern Kansas into much of southern Nebraska. While many crops are not at susceptible stages to damage as of yet, most advanced or earliest planted fields may begin to see egg-laying and subsequent hatches as early as a few weeks from now. Growers in or near this initial risk region should begin monitoring crops and leaves especially as the annual flight intensifies in the coming weeks.
