Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm peak flight is ongoing across the eastern Great Lakes region. Trap counts continue to increase in spots especially from Michigan and northern Ohio northeast into Canada and fresh eggs are also being reported in some areas. High risks remain from far northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota into Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania/New York, and Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks remain from Iowa and southern Minnesota into much of the Great Lakes region but risk levels and coverage areas are already decreasing west of Lake Michigan and will continue to do so over the next couple weeks as peak flight has already occurred in these areas. Growers in the Great Lakes region and in Ontario/Quebec, Canada are urged to continue to monitor their crops for western bean cutworm moth, egg, and potential new larvae activity in the next few weeks.
