Alert Details

Western bean cutworms are expected to continue to emerge across a large portion of the corn-growing region in the next week. High emergence/flight risks continue across portions of Nebraska and Kansas where peak flight is ongoing. Peak flight is also likely expanding eastward into portions of eastern Nebraska, northeast Kansas, northwest Missouri, and western Iowa and High risks are in place for fields in these regions later this week into next weekend. Otherwise, Moderate risks continue for the anticipation of additional increasing or commencing of moth captures across the remainder of Nebraska, portions of northern Kansas, northern Missouri, Iowa, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, extreme northern Illinois, and sandier soils in Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, and southwest Ontario, Canada. Growers are urged to monitor their fields closely for signs of western bean cutworm moths as well as egg masses on leaves especially in the Moderate and High risk areas.
