Alert Details

Western bean cutworm peak flight continues across portions of Nebraska and also potentially into Iowa and northwest Missouri where a High risk continues in today’s forecast. Additional High risk areas are present from central and southeast Michigan eastward into southern Ontario, Canada where fields on sandier soils are seeing higher moth counts and egg laying occurring at this time. Additionally, fields in Wisconsin may see higher moth counts on sandier soils by late this week into the weekend so portions of that state have been upgraded to a High risk. Moderate risks continue across portions of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Ontario, Canada. Problems with this insect are sporadic but are locally intense where there are issues, so growers need to scout their own fields and make any treatment decisions based on what is being seen on a local level.
