Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm flight appears to be winding down in many fields of the corn-growing region except for in the eastern Great Lakes region and also southeast Canada where trap counts and field reports continue to indicate moth presence. High risks remain in place for the next few days west of the Mississippi River in portions of Nebraska, northern Iowa, far southeast South Dakota, and far southern Minnesota and remain in place across central and northern Wisconsin, northern lower Michigan, and also into southern Ontario, Canada through early next week. Moderate risks will remain in place for continued hot spots from Nebraska into South Dakota, northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, all of lower Michigan, far northern Indiana and Ohio, and also far northwest Pennsylvania and New York as well as southern Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada. Growers especially in the Great Lakes region and Canada need to monitor crops especially for the next couple weeks before the flight subsides area-wide by late in the month.
